On January 31st, Hazelwood West held their induction ceremony for the National Art Honor Society.

Art teachers Mrs. Chavarin and Ms. Galbreath led the ceremony, and expressed their joy for the growth of the society.

“We used to be in the low-twenties,” said Chavarin in her welcome speech. “This year we have thirty members.”

This year’s president is Adilene Medina, who shared a speech of the elements of art. Vice-president Kyra Sides was in charge of lighting the candles for the ceremony. Other officers of the honor society include secretary Laura Connor, and Rachel Fitzgerald for public relations.

After the members were inducted, they stood and gave a pledge, led by Medina, to create a better world through art.

Events that National Art Honor Society will contribute to include updating murals in the hallway with new modern designs, painting faces at West’s Special Olympics, and working West’s art show near the end of the school year.
